Cross Of Abundant Living
We who call upon the name of Jesus Christ; who believe God’s light lights the way for every soul born into this world; who believe every soul was created in God’s image, with equal capacity to accept by faith the abundant evidence of that unseen world that surrounds and is within them; must remove the shackles of religion that inevitably bind us to its “Tyrannies and usurpations of power.” Understanding begins with understanding Christ’s metaphor of “The Way, the Truth and the Life”, the three regenerative, Spirit-empowering tools that I have represented in Christ’s “Cross Of Abundant Living” (C.O.A.L. – see cross image). This is a cross of LIFE, not death, which Jesus says every disciple of Christ must carry and understand. It is a cross that will always lead the true believers of Jesus into greater unity with one another, because it represents the “The Way, the Truth and the Life”, which are the three keys to God’s kingdom within given to us by Jesus. These three spiritual keys will inevitably increase God’s agape love… but only if we do our part, only if we practice the discipline of daily Christ-centered meditation, thereby manifesting the Perspective, Purpose and Power of God’s Living Spirit-Word.
Jesus is “The Way”, represented by the horizontal beam of our cross; this beam is COMMUNITY. It represents the outstretched arms of Jesus gathering us in. This is Christ’s body, the gathered, fully functioning, 24/7/365 “Body of Christ, which is the Church” (Colossians 1:24). This is God’s Church community, and Jesus revealed its importance by His own example: Jesus called His disciples; Jesus told them to drop everything and follow Him; They obeyed, and together they lived, ate, prayed, and ministered. The final, irrefutable proof of this first Christian community was their shared common purse (“[Judah] kept the common purse and used to steal what was put into it” John 12:6 NRS).
Jeus is the “The Truth” (i.e. the fullness of God’s truth and never a half-truth), represented by the vertical beam of our cross, this beam is MEDITATION. It represents the arms of every believer stretched heavenward. At the bottom of this vertical beam is our Reason, reaching for God; at the top is God’s Revelation always flowing like a river of light from God’s throne. It is God’s Holy Spirit, also called the Spirit of Truth, which Jesus sent upon His death, that will “Guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). As Jesus prayed to God in John 17:17, “Sanctify them by Your Truth. Your Word is Truth.” This Truth is freely given by God to everyone. But only those who understand there are laws (i.e. natural conditions) for tuning into God’s communication frequency, will be able to receive those freely given Truths. Those conditions for KNOWING God, and RECEIVING the Spirit’s Revelational Truth, directly into one’s mind and heart (this is God’s New Covenant with mankind, see Hebrews chapter 8), is as follows:
- We must humble our self before God (“Whoever does not receive the kingdom of Godas a little child will by no means enter it” Mark 10:15).
- We must believe Jesus: the greatest spiritual teacher who ever lived; a man of great humility who willingly sacrificed His life to prove through His resurrection that life never ends, continuing in the invisible Spirit-realm; and we must believe Jesus when He said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Fatherexcept through Me.” (John 14:6).
- We acknowledge the Truth of Christ’s gift to mankind prior to His death and resurrection, which He said the Father would be sending through Him, the Spirit of Truth (i.e. Holy Spirit) which would, “Guide you into all Truth”.
- And finally, we must obey Christ’s command to be born-again by that same Spirit, for “Unless one is born again”, Jesus says, “One cannot see or enter the Kingdom of God.” (John 3:3,5).
Jesus is “The Life”, represented by the center circle that binds our two beams together; this beam is ABIDING. “Abide in me” forms a binding circle that unites the Meditation-Word beam with the Community-Love beam. God revealed to me a new and uniquely powerful Christ-centered method of meditation. It is through this God-given meditation method that we best manifest God’s Truth, which is God’s Living Spirit Word. And when we live in Christian community with our fellow Christ-believers, it is the principle of “Many hands make light work” that frees our time, infuses our life with many potential mentors, and helps us focus more on God. Thus, the uniting circle of Christ’s call to “Abide in Me” is that which most liberates us from the inherent divisions of a religious system predicated on oneness with God being reserved exclusively for Jesus. And yet, in John 17 any Christian can read Christ’s prayer for every believer to experience that exact same oneness with God He enjoyed, not a merging oneness but a oneness in Perspective, Purpose and shared Power with both Jesus and God: “I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me… I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world… I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.” (John 17:9;14;20-23).
Here is an easy way to remember the makeup of Christ’s “Cross Of Abundant Living”. Remember this acronym: L.A.W. Jesus came not to destroy the LAW but to fulfill it. The L.A.W. is LOVE, ABIDE, WORD.
